Why arent I scared of a single horror film?

im 16, ive seen pretty much every horror movie which has made a name for itself, shining, psycho, excorcist, the omen, texas chainsaws, halloweens, salems lot, all modern films are a no-go, i practically refuse to sit through 2 hours of overdone effects and make-up, the ring was a pile of ****, dont understand why its considered scary... i still havent experienced a scary film.. maybe when i was like 13 it was a little frightening but i just think its plain cheesy and knowing its fake aswell, silence of the lambs is brilliant, not scary but a great storyline and i love how it follows on to hannibal. any recommendations to a film which can leave me genuinly frightened to watch? preferrably something from the 80s-90s but stil the point where its bearable to sit through (a.k.a not a crap quality film, something similar to the shining is perfect)..
