Do you know a good book that epitomizes American Competition?

I have just finished reading OIL! by Upton Sinclair, and I am searching for another book on American Competition. I need 2 books for a school research project. So far the possibilities that I have thought of are The Great Gatsby, Kane and Abel, and The Sun Also Rises. If anyone could come up with something else it would be greatly appreciated.
