What is the big deal about Smith & Wessons?

People always say that Smith & Wessons are the Cadillac of all pistols. However whenever I try using Smith & Wessons, I notice they fire real horribly. They have terrible accuracy, their iron sights are goofy, and they have a lot of recoil. The only thing I do like about them is that they are easy to clean. But accuracy is what I consider the most important thing to worry about when selecting a gun. An inaccurate gun can kill a family member instead of a bad guy. So what exactly is so great about Smith & Wessons?
